For my second month's shipment, I was sent 2 bottles from Daniel Gehrs Winery. I received a 2009 Central Coast Merlot and a 2011 Santa Barbara County White Hills Vineyard Chenin Blanc. Here is a little information about each bottle. The 2011 Santa Barbara County White Hills Vineyard Chenin Blanc has "aromas of plums, wild flowers and clover honey lead to a fruity palate of ripe Barlett pear and melon flavors. The finish is crisp and zesty". The 2011 Chenin Black is a Gold, Silver and Bronze Metal Winner in various competitions. It was also the 2010 Top 10 White Wine Award from the World Wine Championship Competition. I prefer white wine over red so this was my first pick. I prepared a nice dinner to serve this wine with which included a pork tenderloin, sweet potatoes with coconut and green beans. It was really a great pairing. This wine also pairs well with seafood. As the description says crisp and zesty are just the perfect words for this wine.
The 2009 Central Coast Merlot is "dustiness, tanned leather and earthiness add complexity to the lush signature black cherry fruit. Tannins are smooth, lending backbone and a long finish". The 2009 Central Coast Merlot is a Double Gold, Gold and Silver Medal winner in various competitions. This Merlot pairs well with beef entrees, like Filet Mignon and New York Strip Steak.
