Food Lion Reveals Their Remodeled Stores-Food Lion Ambassador Review and Giveaway

I have always enjoyed shopping at Food Lion for many reasons, mainly because of the quality and selection that Food Lion carries in their stores.  Also, the employees of my local Food Lion are always friendly and willing to help. I was recently told of the opportunity to apply to be a Food Lion Ambassador and of course, I jumped, applied, and I was selected.  I am super excited to be able to share with you about the remodeled Food Lion stores and share my most recent shopping trip.

As a Food Lion Ambassador, I received a $150 gift card to shop at my local remodeled Food Lion store.  I also received  a bamboo cutting board and recipe box, a spatula, an oven mitt, a lion-shaped cookie cutter, and a reusable shopping bag.

Prior to going shopping, I looked at the weekly specials on the Food Lion website, put together my shopping list and headed out.

When I went inside the store, I immediately noticed how clean the store was.  The coupon machine was situated immediately inside of the store,  so I scanned my Food Lion card and I received two sheets of coupons.  The coupons that were printed were some that I would be able to use, especially the $4 off $55 or more.  That was great!

The produce department was my first stop.  The color of the fruits and vegetables in the produce department stood out as I entered the store.  Food Lion has also redesigned the produce department to give the feeling of a market style in the produce department.  As you can see from the picture, some of the fruits and vegetables are in positioned in a slanted fashion giving that market type appearance. Food Lion has produce that is locally produced and the prices are very good.  The produce looks so fresh and Food Lion has a wonderful selection. Look at that shiny flooring, I just love it! I purchased some bananas, grapes, lettuce, apples, peaches, and oranges. The yellow peaches were on sale for $.99 a pound for the recipe that I made.  You will see that a  little later.

Next stop on my list was the deli.  I found a wide selection of brands of deli meat and cheeses on display.  Everything looked so good.  I had seen in the ad that Food Lion Colby Jack was on sale for $4.99 a pound so I decided to get a pound of that.  Delicious!

I continued getting the items that I had on my list and items that were on sale in the ad.  I went up and down every single isle, just shopping and looking at the huge selection of brand names Food Lion carries.  I was also admiring the isles, how clean and well organized they are.

In particular, I was looking for some My Essentials items that I had wanted to try.  I have found that many of the store brand items are just as good if not better than the national brand. The savings between the store brand and name brand are significant.  I purchased the My Essentials tuna, salsa, and several other items.  I tried the salsa and it is very, very good and comparable to the other name brands out there, just not as pricey.  Here are a few of the My Essentials items I purchased.

I really enjoyed my shopping trip and experience to my newly remodeled Food Lion and felt that I got a great deal of the Lion's share in my shopping trip. Thank you Food Lion for allowing me to spread the word about your wonderful newly remodeled stores.

In the recipe box that I was sent from Food Lion, there were several recipe cards included.  I decided that I would try the Grilled Chicken and Peach Kabobs.  If you are looking for a tasty summertime meal, this is it.  We love grilling during the summertime. As a matter of fact, grilling is our main source of cooking during the summer.  I modified the recipe a little to fit our taste.  Instead of using the zucchini and mushrooms, I used yellow squash, tomatoes, and onions along with the suggested peaches.

First, I mixed up my marinade which consists of:

  • 1/4 Cup of Olive Oil
  • 1/2 Cup of Coarse-Grain Mustard
  • 2 Tbsp. Red Win Vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. Fresh Thyme
  • 1 Tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 Tsp. Freshly Ground Pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. Orange Zest
I cut my chicken up into squares, put them in the marinade in a bowl for about 6 hours in the fridge.

After I had marinaded the chicken, I threaded it onto my skewers with the veggies and fruit, poured the remainder of the marinade over the skewers and back into the fridge.

And viola, the finished dish.  It was delicious!
